Helping Educate Responders On-scene

Supporting education

and innovation

for the neonatal population.

NeoHERO is a South Carolina based nonprofit founded on March 7, 2025. NeoHERO’s founder is Lindsay Spurgeon, a Board-Certified Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with additional Board-Certification in Neonatal and Pediatric Transport. The NeoHERO mission is to improve neonatal health in the prehospital setting by providing expert guidance, resources, equipment, and education to emergency responders in prehospital transport.

The NeoHERO purpose is to collaborate with and support first responders by providing them with ongoing education and certification of neonatal resuscitation through the American Academy of Pediatric’s Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), as well as providing simulation, class-time, training, and equipment.

NRP is the standard of care for newborn resuscitation and is jointly sponsored by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Heart Association (AHA). Currently NeoHERO is collaborating with fourteen different departments in nine different counties, and expanding across two different states with a wait list that is growing daily for our services.

Materials for Learning

NeoHERO’s mission is to help educate first responders through hands-on training courses in person. The success of the training relies heavily on our ability to provide life-like simulations. Our nonprofit will have ongoing expenses for educational materials related to the services we are providing. Our educational items of the most importance are a newborn doll simulator, NRP books, classroom materials for NRP, and medical supplies for simulations. Our NRP training classes will require we provide several NRP instructors who are certified to teach the NRP course. Instructors typically charge for a 4-8 hour day. In addition to the cost of providing 1 instructor per every 6 students in a class, there is the additional cost of the certification for each individual student, as well as an NRP book for each student.

Continuing Education for First Responders

Ongoing education is the reality of any medical personnel. The expectation and standard is to be constantly learning and constantly refreshing on what you have learned. NRP will need to be renewed every 2 years to remain current. Our initiative is to provide quarterly simulations to first responders, as well as the opportunity to take additional newborn stabilization courses such as STABLE.

Medical Supplies

NeoHERO’s goal in addition to providing education is to be able to offer additional supplies and equipment to first responders. We want to support the process of newborn transport to the hospital the right way, and the safe way. NeoHERO would like to offer thermoregulation kits for preterm infants, as well as additional harnesses, and resuscitation devices that are currently not within the budget.

“Neonatal transport is my life’s work and my passion. Safety is always number one.”
